Concept

Outlanders tale is one of fate and mystery. It reads like characters in a greek myth who try to challenge their destiny, but no-matter how much they rebel they are bound to a certain path. The proposed title sequence mirrors this through the implication of recorded history.

Additionally it takes the design as if its a tale that’s been passed down many times; more like a fairytale, who details are not set in stone. The images shift, creating a deep series of layered collage telling the story though documents and keepsakes that may have been left behind.

Initial Style frames

In the design of the initial style frames I took some key elements of the show to represent the mystery in the boundaries to life paths and fate. The surreal feeling of the characters traveling and experiencing multiple timelines is represented by creating flashes, inverting some frames and animating thresholds through transitions as well as adding textures and other visual elements significant to the time where the show takes place in order generate a tactile feel to these different elements that appear almost as a representation of mental fragmentation.
